Comments Geoff Holt, UK artist, 1942 – 1998.

Geoff Holt was born in Wokingham, Surrey, England on the 30th July 1942.

As a little boy all Holt ever wanted to do was draw. Painting followed as soon as he was able to get his hands on a box of water colors. Geoff Holt was chosen at 14 years of age to attend Junior Art School at Camberwell, run by the London County Council. He left at 18, and from that time on mostly sold his work privately or by commission. Holt avoided the “art” world, preferring to make his own way. He started his professional practice by selling his art on the railings at Bayswater, London.

Married twice, Holt had a child from each marriage. He died of cancer on the 22nd of February 1998 at Exeter Surrey England

Geoff Holt’s father was George Edward Holt who was a fire fighter with the Pioneer Corps during WW2. His mother, Irene Winifred Holt, (nee Miatt) worked as a cleric with RACS after the early death of her husband.

Holts maternal grandfather was a craft bookbinder - and self-taught calligrapher and draughtsman.
