I agree. Granted, this is a forum-based site, and I'm all for free speech as much as the next guy, but posts that are no more than attacks, racial slurs, and bigotry need to be filtered. They detract from the real reason for using this site.

Not offensive and racist language, but POINTLESS (some would say all foul language is pointless, but that is not the point... :P) use of ANY language. We already have rules against spam messages due to the fact that they are POINTLESS. They don't help anyone with their questions (some would argue against this as well, but then, some people just like to argue...), and neither do posts that have no intention. If a person says an offensive word in regard to a post, it shouldn't be blocked unless the post itself has NO VALUE whatsoever in helping the person find out what they are looking for. (Same thing should go for posts along the lines of "Sorry, couldn't find anything for you." since they don't do ANYTHING except confirm that the topic is hard to find. Send a PM or something more personal...) I personally don't believe or appreciate examples of censorship, even if the topic that people FEEL should be censored is hurtful and ill-thought. But enough of my rambling. :D Sorry. All I'm saying is, keep POINTLESS posts out of the CFoG forums, not OFFENSIVE posts.

Point well put. The discussions off-topic should be kept to a minimum (Not pointing fingers, I'm guilty of going off on a tangent here or there myself). It is frustrating to see a response to a post, only to find that the response has nothing to answer the request.

How exactly would this work? I already have "Spam/Junk" links on every comment, so any comment can be removed from the system. I don't have time to review every comment that gets posted, so this seems like the fastest way to remove junk from the site. And the spam/junk does get removed (although I'll admit, it doesn't get wiped off as fast as I would like...)

Eh, can it be made quicker? It takes forever, and that is time enough for people to get their hopes up (two new responses? AWESOME! Wait, this guy says that it is impossible and I should get a Nintendo DX, and this person says that bacon stock prices are extremely cheap in the Chinese market... what do those have to do with my question on which flea removing agent to use? *this is just an example*) - make it so that, after a set amount of people (say three?) click 'this is junk' the link is hidden, or something. So that, if three people decide that the price of a pig slice in China is entirely unrelated to taking care of Fido, I won't be alerted to the fact that somebody gave me a junk response. I feel that the people are mature enough to not abuse this feature (and it'd take a conspiracy to do it repeatedly anyway...)

Oh! Inspiration struck! Make a new button next to Spam/Junk called Relevancy, and make it on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being unrelated to the topic at hand and 10 being the EXACT answer I'm looking for.

Then allow people to set their own alert thresholds (like me, I wouldn't look at anything rated below 3) and the Relevancy will be set by people who come by later and read the message. Then, responsible people (like me :P) who type responses like 'Hey, sorry to hear about your dog, but did you know that squealer chunks are only $1.75lb in China? Comfort Food!' can set our own relevancies (I'd call that a definate 2) and people who come along afterwards to respond can adjust it as they see fit. :)

Hope you can do that, cause I'd like it!

MWAH! Terri
