Call the library!

I am not looking for anything. This is just a suggestion for everyone. Please, after answering about 8 questions in about 15 minutes, have any of you called a library? If your question is not simply a request for a cheat, hack or code to get into a program, you might get good results there. Many states have statewide 24/7 online reference. I know mine does. Please try that. We just do not get the kinds of reference calls we used to get because everyone tries to find things on the internet when sometimes you have better luck when asking the experts. Good luck.

How to fix your own lawn mower

I could not find a good site with FREE instructions on how to repair my lawn mower. Most sites that were generated by a Google search were businesses or books on lawnmower repair. I find that Free advice and instructions are becoming harder to find now, as people are trying to make money out of it; can't say I blame them. Maggee

Order on the site!

This site needs to have catagories instead of just having everything all together, thats why people keep posting the same thing over and over again, because they think people didnt see it because it got shoved back several pages over too quickly. By catagories i mean somthing like computers (hardware, software) entertainment (games,tv,movies, music), art, X-rated, miscelaneous, etc......... you get the idea. The home page could still be the way it is but the option to go to catagoies should be available. Sorry if that didnt make sence, I somtimes have bad grammar when it comes to forums. Just look at forums on other sites to get an idea of what I mean.

I'm Trying To Feel Lucky

Searching for "Jennifer Aniston" this morning yields 5,500,000 hits. What's a drooling fan to do about it?

Google, being somewhat of a virtual artificially intelligent Jennifer Aniston stalker, finds that there are 37 common searches that seem to satisfy most users. So it lets you pick one or more (in a choosable order) and does the I feel lucky thing with each.

Imagine: In no time at all, you're getting lucky with Jennifer! :)

Argue with the Google engine

Say you're having trouble locating something. So start an argument. Below is a textual representation of what happens - Google can figure out a good UI for it.

User: I'm looking for baking sites that have good recipes for selling cheap inkjet printers

Google: Hmmm. I have baking sites with good recipes, and I have sites that sell inkjet printers, and I have sites that compare injet printers. Did you want one of those?

User: No dammit. I want typewriter ribbons.

Google: Dude, help me help you. Here are some pictures that might help - are you looking for something like one of these?

User: Sure, if it's raining in Georgia.

...

Google: Ok, I think I have it. You want next Tuesday's weather report for Milwaukee?

User: 10-4 good buddy

Search Macros

Let users define their own macros to promote more accurate and expedient searches. Particularly useful when you want to perform searches with complex booleans.

* Macros are simply string substitutions, e.g. {FRIENDS}="joe OR mary OR billy OR frank OR martha"

* Could either be done on a per-session basis (for anonymity) or in your settings if you are registered.

* Some macros would be predefined by Google to prime the pump, i.e. {MICROSOFT_OPERATING_SYSTEMS}="vista xp me 98 95 dos"

* Google would automagically learn others based on common search patterns and _recommend_ them if they're a reasonable close match to a search it sees you iterating on, e.g. "You are searching sites similar to our macro SPORTS_SITES - do you want to try that?"

* Create macro name spaces. Let me share one or more of my macros with (a) the public, (b) one or more specific gmail users I name, (c) people I share a given googlegroup membership with.

etc.

The ability to bump entries.

Once an entry gets on page 2, it's practically dead. You should allow people to "bump" their topics to the top of the first page. Maybe have it so that like, they can't bump it with in one week prior to it's creation. And once they bump it, they can't bump it for another week. That way, the first page isn't cluttered with bumped entries.

it'dbe cool to have a way for people to give donations to a charity from your regular search page...maybe a charity in the inner city or something bigger like the boys and girls club...

IRFAN ALI CHANDIO, irfanchandio@gmail.com

THE ORIGNAL AHA MOMENT OF MINE.

My name is Irfan ali chandio, iam 26 male, paksitani, MBA Charles Sturt University, Australia @ HELP University Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Iam on the free lance reasearch of inserting the synthetic mechanical vibrator on notebooks to integrate with messengers like cell phone vibrate ringer.

Integrating the hardware to google messenger when an end user buzz to any individual it just not shake window it will also vibrate into endsuers wrists, on notebooks simeltaneously and user will feel the real time chating experience.

unfortunately i dont have resources to do so, i need google to hire me to make this happend, and the google messenger will be used all over the world, when commercializing this idea it will be innovative idea from google, and the pattern for google so company can charge their own intersets to companies like dell, acer, IBM , compaq, fujitsu, Apple e.t.c. to integrate this innovation

Also the market share of the google messnger will be into wooping levels dramtically all over the world. if Google want to attain and tap $1000 Trillion Market cap quickly than this radical innovation would help and contribute significantly to Google Inc.

This innovation will revolutionize the messnger market also all over the globe and for sure breaking the msn and yahoo messenger market, I already done some survey asking peoples that how they feel if some one buzz you and u feel vibrate into their hands simeltaneously, they really like the idea.

Iam on the way to design the proto type of this vibrating messenger, taking all sensativities of notebook into account.

Looking forward to hear from you. Devotee google user Irfan Ali Chandio irfanchandio@gmail.com Cell: 0060165078034 (malaysia)

list replies as well as question postings when name is double-clicked

I noticed that when you click on a name in a posting, that it only shows postings that the person has done but not replies that person has contributed.
