SOME IDEAS FOR GOOGLE

To whom it may concern:

First of all, Google rocks. Everything about it is great. I occasionally check on Google Labs to see if certain things apply to my specific needs are available to download.

Ideas

1. Being a student, and I think even people who aren't students would agree, wikipedia.org, answers.com, and sites of that sort are always of great use to me when I do research. If you guys down at Google create something similar to Wikipedia, that would be great. You know a research sorta site... Whatever these are just suggestions.

2. Parents (including mine) are constantly worrying about the internet. If you software developers down at Google that is like a KidSearch or KidBrowser and the other browser requires a password or whatever, parents would be less hesitant over letting their children use the internet.

3. I know being all rich now Google attitudes will change but please don't. Google is the people's corporation or whatever they're called. Stay the same. It's good for us users and you. It is the ultimate business plan. This business plan is based on trust, care, reliability, and efficiency.

I had many more suggestions but I forget them. Some were better than the ones I gave. I suggest making a Google suggestion box for people who have innovative ideas.

image search

at the end of a large number of image searches (after you have scrolled through the available pages) you find 'repeat search with omitted results'. I'd appreciate a 'repeat search with only omitted results' option. I just think it's a bit of a time saver.

Is there no html here?

I haven't been able to use html, which would be very useful for links. I think it ought to be supported.

Bad searching

I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but it seems that most people who post just aren't very good at searching. Would suggest http://www.researchclinic.co.uk/ for good advice on how to search, written by an investigative journalist.

Multiple E-mails forwarding to an other email address.

There must a option on the page to forward the multiple emails to other email address. Currenty user can only forward one email but there should a option to forward multiple e-mails.

Wow

I came on this site about a year ago and wrote a suggestion...i know it probably had nothing to do with the new display, but i'm happy to see it has changed. One thing though, it would be nice if you could still look alphabetically by user name, its hard to find old entries (not my own)!

thanks for the great site

Design

I really think this page could use a overhall when it comes to the design of the site. It's an amazing site and it is really useful, it just is hard to look at. I am willing to help you if you want to contact me.

stickies / FAQ

Alot of times, people are asking for the same thing, how to find movies and songs and stuff like that. Also it seems that some people could use some tips on searching, using quotes, boolean operators, also I know this is supposed to focus on google, but I recommend www.imdb.com for movies and sometimes some other specialty search engines that people should know about, righ tool for the right job, ya know.

Hypocritical Search

This website is 'can't find it on Google', and yet the search tool runs a Google search. This site should have a builtin search engine.

Dropdown list of Categories

when you have to type in your own category, there's not only a margin for error, but there's a chance that whoever else has the same category as you spelt it or worded it differrently. With a dropdown menu, you can just choose you're category and finding entries would be easier.

Broken website. Next doesn't work right.

Broken website. Hard to see at first, but it should not work this way. When I press 2 or Next page, I get the next page of MUSIC searches. No more general category. I can't see any more general listings beyond the first 20 on the start page. And if I find a category I like on the first page, I can click that. But if not, I'm sunk. We need a way to see a list of categories, or at least a textbox to type one in to browse. That is different that a general search on a term in the current text box search. It would be in addition to the one there. I did type in Category at the Search box, and that showed me some.

Also would like a pref setting to list 100 or more items per page. I hate to page forward on highspeed.

facilities which may things much better

To whomsoever it may concern I have been using Google as well Gmail & also have the Gmail Pack downloaded to my system. I am extremely happy with the services of Google as well as Gmail. I don't know whether this is the place where I should be mailing my suggestions but if it is then I would be grateful if you please go through the following few suggestions. If these are not there already in Google then on implementation of such facilities can be very useful as Google is expanding like anything to give so may useful things to us.

I couldn't find a website which is a world directory that can show people's name, address etc. For this I feel that a site should be there where any person can place their name, addresses, phone numbers, email ids or even a photograph to tally. By this all those people who want that their identity to be known by others also, can do it and if someone wants to find some friend's current address etc. he/she can try this place if by chance his/her friend has kept it in the directory. On entering into the site one can simply search someone even if he/she has only his/her name of country along with any one of the others i.e. name/address/city &phone number or only email id. Else if some one only places the name then all the same names placed in the directory will appear and he/she can go on clicking and search for him/her also.

By this not only search can be easier but those who have entered their identities being a good citizen and later become an anti-social element/terrorist by some reasons can also be traced as entering details once won't be changed from a hidden file in the system (which can be retrieved when required by law preservers) even if someone changes the details which the general public can view. Though this kind of help may very little but still can be another access.

This site will however be used by only those persons who are not afraid to make them visible publicly or are not terrorists etc but can be very useful to many others.

A facility can be made by Google by which one can connect any phone number (not related with any PC) through Google and get connected with the other person's phone with paying anything as in Google Talk. Something like Internet telephony and countries which do not have internet telephony also can connect to this Google's site & get connected to any number.

Google talk is extremely good but facilities should be much more i.e. more than Yahoo messenger.

As per Gmail is concerned it would be great if a provision of 'read receipt' where one can know if his/her mail is opened. I hope these would be of some interest. Ray

RSS out of sync? And "How to Google effectively" section

Great site. Terrific idea.

RSS seems to be out of sync a bit. I'm not really up on how RSS works in a technical sense, so it just may be that the feed isn't updated instantly.

Also, how about offering some advice for searching Google effectively? Tips and tricks for finding what you want would be helpful to many, I'd assume. (Perhaps an updated version of this type of article? http://searchenginewatch.com/facts/article.php/2156021) At the very least, you could link to Google's help: http://www.google.com/help/refinesearch.html

Thanks for providing a place to suggest improvements!

Not a suggestion

I was just thinking about how far this website has come in the last year, finally the reprecussions of being on AOTS have died away, and the spam feature at least seems to work. Nice site, although, I've still never been able to find the band White Rufalo...

Easier Tracking?

I don't know if there is an easier way already in the CFoG, but I've noticed that if I want to find out whether or not my post was responded to, I have to click a bunch of buttons to get to the topic. I go to Your Account, click Responses, and then click the View Entire Conversation for the topic at hand, only to find out noone responded. So, maybe, on the page you would click View Entire Conversation, make the bar have more than [Edit] sitting on it, like Responses: xxx... etc...

Maybe a tracker in that blank space under Terms of Use / Privacy Policy, that tells you whether or not any conversations you have taken part in have posts in them that you haven't read. I often times invest great deals of energy working my way through the fever of inspiration as I type out these gargantuan posts, and I'd like to be able to know whenever someone has responded immediately, instead of having to sort through masses of different items, clicking the View This Conversation tab on each one, just to see that nothing new has happened. :P

Again, if there is a way to do this already, I'd be grateful to know of it.

Mwah!
